Love photographing waterfalls and this was one of the best on this trip. Parking lot was closed but we walked a short distance from parking up the road. Quite a few steps but not too bad since it was not far.
Beautiful waterfall. Worth the trek. There are 40 stone steps before you make your big descent. 125 stone steps each way. A couple steep steps but nothing horrible. I would rate this a lower level moderate little hike worth the trip. If you have wonky knees I would suggest a walking stick.
Easy and pleasant hike. Lots of parking ($5). Take the tunnel under the road and the waterfalls are a short walk. It’s all a short walk. There are stairs down to a lower level to see the waterfall from below.
Gorgeous. Quite the workout if not in good shape. There are a good amount of un-even stone steps going down to the falls
We didn't know where to park because there was snow everywhere, so we finally went underground via the tunnel. We needed microspikes all the way down to the 64 ft Falls. And yes, it's worth it. The falls are absolutely beautiful, especially while surrounded by snow and ice.
One of my favorite places in the White Mountains. Park 10.5 miles up route 16 on the left. Walk under route 16 via tunnel. Some great swimming spots above and below. Best in April/May but always good. Stairs can be icy in April. Nice little spot 100 meters below the falls to hang out with water deep enough to swim around in. May also swim right at the falls in late June on but too powerful and cold in April. And once again, a stop at the Red Fox Grill on the way back is always a great ending to the day.
These falls are 100% worth it, you do have to park on the other side of the highway and walk across in a passenger tunnel, then you start down the stairs and it like with each flight you unlock a new level of beauty and experience the power of time and water to cut through rock, shaping something that leaves you in awe. I highly recommend this hike to anyone that can do like 4 flights worth of stairs.
A stop at Glen Ellis is a must if you're a fan of waterfalls. A short hike from the parking lot, down a well maintained path, leads you to the first section of the falls. If you're not limited in mobility, you can proceed further down the stairs to the base of the falls with a couple different view points. The parking lot is usually on the heavy side as this is the parking for some nearby hiking trails, so the falls are usually pretty quiet.
If you're an adventurous photographer, there's some good shots of the falls just off the path. Be careful, the rocks are slippery, and there is no cell service!
